Standard 2

(Content Pedagogy): Candidates develop as reflective practitioners able to demonstrate effective implementation of educational technologies and processes based on contemporary content and pedagogy.

Artifact #1: EDET 650 Internship Report

Context & Conditions -- EDET 650: Internship in Educational Technology was taken during Fall - Year Two. This final report was created using Microsoft PowerPoint. It presents the results of my internship that was done at the Lamar Public Library.

Scope -- The artifact summarizes the time in which I was available at the library to provide tutoring and homework help for students and computer assistance for adults.

Role -- This report was completed individually. The internship was also individual, but the branch manager and children's librarian served as subject matter experts regarding the library's operations and patrons.

Instructional Design -- This artifact reflects all elements of the ADDIE model. These phases of ADDIE can also be applied to the MRK model. I met with the branch manager to determine how I could work with the library to provide services that would benefit the Lamar community. Students were also surveyed to determine the need for and creation of resources. A website was created using Wix to house the resources. This final report serves as a summary in which I provide results from the internship. It also includes information that was included in my bi-weekly reflections.

Performance Indicator(s) --

  • Creating -- Candidates apply content pedagogy to create appropriate applications of processes and technologies to improve learning and performance outcomes.

Job aids were created and resources were found that could benefit students. Survey results were used to determine the type of resources that would be provided to students. A website was created so that the resources could be accessed anywhere that internet access is available.

  • Using -- Candidates implement appropriate educational technologies and processes based on appropriate content pedagogy.

The types of resources were based on student needs. Likewise, resources were added that are known problem areas, as well as those that could benefit them when completing projects such as online dictionaries and calculators.

  • Assessing/Evaluating - Candidates demonstrate an inquiry process that assesses the adequacy of learning and evaluates the instruction and implementation of educational technologies and processes grounded in reflective practice.

Bi-weekly reflections were completed that allowed me to determine what I needed to change or focus on next.

  • Managing - Candidates manage appropriate technological processes and resources to provide supportive learning communities, create flexible and diverse learning environments, and develop and demonstrate appropriate content pedagogy.

I was responsible for creating and gathering resources. The website provides students with access to the resources when they are away from the library.

  • Ethics - Candidates design and select media, technology, and processes that emphasize the diversity of our society as a multicultural community.

The images used for the website were representative of the patrons the library serves in terms of gender, age, and ethnic groups.

Reflection -- The internship was not as productive as I would have liked it to be. I had hoped for more interaction with students. Nonetheless, I realized that things may have been different if I was there for a longer period of time, including more hours each day.

Artifact #2: EDET 703 WWW Lesson

Context & Conditions -- EDET 703: Design and Development Tools II was taken during Spring - Year One. The files for this online lesson were created using BlueGriffon. The files were uploaded to GoDaddy which hosts my domain.

Scope -- This artifact was designed as an online lesson that was to be created using HTML code.

Role -- This lesson was completed individually. I was both the web developer and instructional designer.

Instructional Design -- This artifact reflects the first three elements of the ADDIE model. A need for the lesson was determined. It was then designed and developed using HTML code. The lesson plan was posted on a previous portfolio web page.

Performance Indicator(s) --

  • Creating -- Candidates apply content pedagogy to create appropriate applications of processes and technologies to improve learning and performance outcomes.

The lesson will be completed online using technology. This is an appropriate method since cyberbullying occurs online. This would be added to the Media Center webpage.  It can be adapted to fit students of all ages.

  • Managing - Candidates manage appropriate technological processes and resources to provide supportive learning communities, create flexible and diverse learning environments, and develop and demonstrate appropriate content pedagogy.

The lesson was completed in a format that allows it to be completed at any time. Students can complete it at their own pace and repeat it as needed.

Reflection -- This assignment was intimidating at first because of my level of experience with HTML code. At the same time, I was looking forward to it so that I could get better in terms of my use of HTML. The design was very simple, but I would have improved the appearance of the lesson if I had more time. Also, if I wanted to have the lesson complete over more than one session, then I would have considered adding videos or other features to make the lesson interactive.
