(Research) Candidates explore, evaluate, synthesize, and apply methods of inquiry to enhance learning and improve performance.

Artifact #1: EDET 746 ADDIE Paper

Context & Conditions -- EDET 746: Management of Technology Resources was taken during Fall - Year Two. This artifact required research on the ADDIE Instructional Design Model. The resulting information was then typed in Microsoft Word and has been uploaded to Google Drive.

Scope -- The artifact provides an introduction into Instructional Design. The ADDIE Model is a good starting point since the model as been used a long time. Moreover, many models are based on ADDIE so it can lead to the study of other instructional design models.

Role -- This report was completed entirely by me including both the research and writing of the paper.

Instructional Design -- This artifact reflects all elements of the ADDIE model based on the research gathered, not the actual use of the model. Background information is provided, as well as how the model is used. Each stage is discussed in detail, including differences in the phase descriptions. The pros and cons of the use of the ADDIE model are also discussed.

Performance Indicator(s) --

  • Theoretical Foundations -- Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology.

The research on the ADDIE Model helped me understand the instructional design process. The information about how ADDIE has been used over the years is also beneficial. Using that knowledge, assessments can be made about the ADDIE model's pros and cons, as well as conclusions as to why it is still being used today.

  • Method -- Candidates apply research methodologies to solve problems and enhance practice.

The research was done to obtain information about ADDIE's history, the pros and cons of its use, etc. It provided enough insight for me to discuss why there are differences in phase descriptions. The research also helped by providing knowledge as to how to apply ADDIE to Instructional Design.

  • Ethics -- Candidates conduct research and practice using accepted professional and institutional guidelines and procedures.

Resources were cited throughout the paper using the APP style. Also, a resource list was included at the end of the paper.

Reflection -- Prior to conducting research for the paper I was not very familiar with the ADDIE model. Things may have been a bit confusing at first, but reading information from different sources helped clarify things. Having to describe the phases and discrepancies of the descriptions also allowed me to learn more about ADDIE and instructional design.

Artifact #2: EDET 709 Learning Theory Paper

Context & Conditions -- EDET 709: Applications of Learning Principles was taken during Spring - Year One. This artifact required research on a theory of instruction. The resulting information was then typed in Microsoft Word and has been uploaded to Google Drive.

Scope -- The artifact provides information on Robert Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction and how they can be applied to any field of learning. Additionally, information is also provided on the other contributions that Gagne made to the study and development of learning theories.

Role -- This paper was an independent assigned completed entirely by me.

Instructional Design -- This artifact reflects some elements of the ADDIE model based on the research gathered and how the NIne Events of Instruction can be applied to various fields of learning.

Performance Indicator(s) --

  • Theoretical Foundations -- Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology.

The research on Robert Gagne helped me learn about his contributions to the study and development of learning theories and how they have evolved over the years.

  • Method -- Candidates apply research methodologies to solve problems and enhance practice.

The research was conducted on the Nine Events of Instruction to determine whether they must be completed in order, if all stages are needed, etc.

  • Ethics -- Candidates conduct research and practice using accepted professional and institutional guidelines and procedures.

Resources were cited throughout the paper using the APP style. Also, a resource list was included at the end of the paper.

Reflection -- Prior to conducting research for the paper I did not fully understand the Nine Events of Instruction. Reading descriptions of each event and how they can be applied to instruction helped me gain a better understanding of them. Likewise, I learned more about Gagne's contributions to learning theories and how they can benefit instruction.
